ĢƵios Center for Lifelong Learning offers non-credit, personal enrichment and training classes for youth and adults. Registration for in-person and virtual classes is open to the public all year. With classes, workshops, and summer camps, students of all ages and skill levels have the chance to learn something new in the arts, humanities, STEM, and beyond!

Youth ĢƵios - Summer Camps

  • ivy arts for kids (rising grades 1-5)

    Ivy Arts for Kidsis back this summer for its 15-year anniversary of celebrating youth arts education! For rising 1st-5th graders, this summer's program offers an immersive, hands-on experience in ceramics, painting, crafting, and mixed media that will spark your child's imagination and inspire creativity this summer and beyond.

    Guided by instructors and assistants with a wide range of strengths and expertise,Ivy Arts for Kidsis appropriate for budding artists or those curious about exploring their creative side. During our camp activities inĢƵios's Visual Arts and Ceramics classroom spaces, we'll split into two smaller groups based on age and skill level in order to provide as much individual instruction and opportunity for skill development as possible. As always,Ivy Arts for Kidsculminates with an art showcase on the last day of camp, giving family and friends the chance to see their young artist's creations on full display!

    All materials and equipment are provided. Participants will receive a camp t-shirt, work apron, and their own art kit to take home at the end of camp.

    NOTE: Ivy Arts for Kids is repeatable across multiple sessions, as instructors and content will vary, though it is designed as a half-day camp and is not intended for participation in AM and PM camps during the same session.

  • 2D art (Grades 6-8)

    Escape into the world of 2D art for a week of drawing and painting! This camp is perfect for students who have participated in our Ivy Arts for Kids program and want to strengthen their drawing and painting skills further and learn new techniques to express their own ideas. Students will observe demonstrations and create from life as well as the imagination using the design elements they will learn, including techniques, colors, patterns, and shapes. This camp will provide plenty of individual attention beyond demonstrations and activities, and can accommodate beginners and students who want to advance their practice.

    All supplies provided. This camp is for rising 6th-8th graders.

    3d modeling & sculpting basics (Grades 6-8)

    Come explore the basic principles and secrets of the exciting world of digital 3D modeling and sculpting! If you’re interested in art, sculpting, video games, 3D printing, graphic art, or if you’re just curious about the magical world of 3D design, this camp is for you. You will learn basic computer 3D modeling, texturing, and sculpting skills utilizing professional-level, open source (free) 3D software, Blender and Nomad Sculpt. And because the software is accessible with free or advanced versions, you will be able to keep exploring and growing long after the class is over.

    All supplies provided. This camp is for rising 6th-8th graders.

    NOTE: We are excited to offer this camp at no cost this summer with funding provided by General Motors Bedford in support of youth STEM education.   • Baking camp: ice cream & pastries (Grades 6-8)

    Welcome back to our College for Kids Baking Camps this summer where students will get the chance to learn the foundational techniques of baking in the professional kitchens of ĢƵios's Culinary Arts & Hospitality Administration Program! In Ice Cream & Pastries, we'll be making ice cream, cream puffs, mille feuille, meringues, and more. Each day will reward you with something delicious to share with friends and family! This camp is for rising 6th-8th graders.

  • visual arts: art a la carte (Grades 3-5)

    Celebrate this summer with fun and creative arts activities in our Art A La Carte camp for rising 3rd-5th graders! Students will experience a variety of art styles and media, including hands-on projects in painting, drawing, clay, and more that will inspire students to explore their creativity. All supplies are provided, including a t-shirt, and each session culminates with an art show at the StoneGate Arts & Education Center where family and friends will get to see their young artist's creations on full display!

    The Art Show will take place at the StoneGate Arts & Education Center at the end of the last day of camp. We will provide more details about this, as well as drop-off/pick-up instructions in initial communications as we approach the start date.

    Music: sing, dance, and play the hawaiian way! (Grades 3-5)

    What does aloha mean?

    ''Aloha'' means more than hello or goodbye. ''Aloha'' means caring for each other without expecting anything in return from the other person. "Aloha" is the important part of relationships in which each person is special to every other person.

    During our week of music camp, our islanders will dive into the beauty and traditions of Hawaii through its songs, dances, rich vocabulary and traditional island instruments such as the ukulele.

    Our Hawaiian journey will lead us to one of the most famous Hawaiian singers, Iz. The book “The Good Song” is based on the life of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole (1959-1997) and celebrates the inspiration behind Iz’s medley of “Over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World”. Each participant will receive a copy of the book, as well as a t-shirt.

    A live performance will take place in Brinegar Hall at the StoneGate Arts & Education Center at the end of the last day of camp. We will provide more details about the performance, as well as drop-off/pick-up instructions in initial communications as we approach the start date.

  • The ĢƵios Center for Lifelong Learning is proud to partner with Constellation Stage & Screen, who offer an exciting lineup of film, theater, and musical theater programs for Grades K-12! Littles, kids, and teens will work with professional instructors to explore their creative talents in a range of classes and camps hosted throughout the year.

    Grades K-2

    Theater Playground: Aesop's Fables - Grades K-2

    Theater Playground: Aesop’s Fables is an introduction to theater arts for Littles (grades K-2nd) and will focus on the fundamentals of storytelling using fun, dramatized versions Aesop’s Fables like The Ant and the Grasshopper, The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, and The Tortoise and the Hare. Through imaginative play, students will build foundational theater skills in improvisation, communication, voice, movement, and character creation. Guided enrichment activities will spark creative thinking, examine point of view, promote active listening, and encourage self-expression.

    Acting Ensemble for Littles: Where the Wild Things Are - Grades K-2

    Acting Ensemble for Littles: Where the Wild Things Are is a theater arts class for young, budding performers that builds upon their interest in acting, movement, and self-expression—all while having fun! Designed especially for Littles (grades K-2nd), this class will use a dramatized version of Where the Wild Things Are to create characters and explore fantastical worlds. Students will become familiar with the basics of script analysis, stage directions, and storytelling in an interactive and dynamic learning environment. The class will also implement confidence-building theater games and improvisation activities to spark creative thinking for a lifelong love of performing. Students will get to show off their new skills with a final showcase on November 22.

    Musical Theater Playground: Lions & Ogres & Beasts - Grades K-2

    Musical Theater Playground: Lions & Ogres & Beasts is an introduction to musical theater arts for Littles (grades K-2nd) that explores three blockbuster Broadway musicals inspired by blockbuster animated movies: The Lion King, Shrek, and Beauty and the Beast. Students will practice skills in acting, vocal expression, and movement–all while playing with showstopping music and larger-than-life characters. This fun and interactive learning environment will also implement confidence-building theater games and improvisation activities to spark creative thinking, promote active listening, and encourage self-expression.

    Acting Ensemble for Kids: Charlotte's Web - Grades 3-4

    Constellation's Acting Ensemble for Kids: Charlotte’s Web (Grades 3-4) is a fast-paced and fun exploration of acting that will use an imaginative theatrical version of E.B. White's beloved and timeless classic, Charlotte’s Web, to focus on building an ensemble. Students will also learn and build upon the basics of theatrical staging and theater etiquette while developing the building blocks of acting technique -- including voice and speech, creative movement, and exploration of world and character -- all while having a TERRIFIC time as they work towards a final showcase! Students will emerge from the class more articulate, confident, and collaborative performers. This class is perfect for beginners, as well as acting students with some experience.

    Minecraft Moviemaking - Grades 3-4

    Lights, Camera, Minecraft! Constellation’s Minecraft Moviemaking for Kids (grades 3-4) will immerse students in the creative world of filmmaking, inspired by the popular game and culminating in their own cinematic masterpiece! In addition to gaining practical filmmaking experience in front of and behind the camera, students will collaborate to craft compelling characters and a beginning-to-end narrative using the ultra kid-friendly Minecraft universe as a backdrop. Story development and group discussions will promote narrative fluency, boost creativity, and promote imaginative thinking. Additionally, students will design and build sets within the Minecraft environment, honing their spatial reasoning and encouraging innovative solutions to creative challenges, resulting in increased confidence and self-expression.

    Broadway Kids Junior: The Sound of Music In Concert - Grades 3-4

    Constellation’s Broadway Kids Junior: The Sound of Music In Concert (grades 3-4) is a 7-week performance class that gives budding young performers the opportunity to learn and workshop ensemble songs from Rogers and Hammerstein’s classic and beloved The Sound of Music. Under the direction of a seasoned, professional teaching artist, students will develop the building blocks of stage etiquette, musicianship, musicality, and performance as they bring to life musical numbers like “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” and “So Long, Farewell” in an enriching and supportive musical theater environment. The class will culminate in a short concert on December 17. (Students should be comfortable singing in front of others.)

    Broadway Kids: Beauty & the Beast In Concert - Grades 5-8

    Be our guest for Broadway Kids: Beauty and the Beast In Concert (grades 5-8)! In this 10-week performance class, students will learn and workshop scenes and songs from Beauty and the Beast, one of the most treasured and enchanting musicals of all time. Under the direction of a seasoned, professional teaching artist and musical director, Debby Jenkins, students will develop the building of blocks of stage etiquette, musicianship, and performance that will culminate in a concert version that will highlight storytelling as well as solo and ensemble singing in fun, dynamic musical numbers like “Belle,” “Gaston,” “Be Our Guest,” “Human Again,” and the Academy Award-winning “Beauty and the Beast.”

Workforce Skills Training

  • cpr/bls for healthcare professionals

    CPR – or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – is an emergency lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating. Immediate CPR can double or triple chances of survival after cardiac arrest. The course cost includes all materials and instruction to learn CPR, as well as a certification test. Certification spans two years.
