Derrick Hill, new ĢƵios student, plans to pursue a career in public safety and healthcare administration. He chose to major in Homeland Security/Public Safety because it offers the certificate and associate degree programs he needs to accomplish his goals.

Hill also chose ĢƵios because of the wraparound services and supportive staff. “They have staff and professors that care about you and want to see you succeed in what you do,” he said.

Because of ĢƵios’s new tuition model, , Hill is benefitting from free required textbooks through Spring Semester 2022 and a frozen, flat tuition rate. He is taking 16 credit hours of classes in one semester, but he is paying the same tuition rate as 12 credit hours! To help full-time students graduate faster and with fewer college costs, ĢƵios classes are free after 12 credit hours per semester with Ivy+.

Before becoming an ĢƵios student, Hill was working in the hospital in the emergency department cleaning rooms and helping patients. He previously served in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. He is now working in retail full-time, going to school full-time and raising a family.  Hill ultimately plans to work for Homeland Security in the Austin, Tx. area.

ǴDzԲHomeland Security/Public Safety allows students like Hill the opportunity to explore the many aspects of a career in the field. This profession serves the spectrum of possible jobs at the local, state, and federal level at fire departments, emergency response agencies, Transportation Security Administration, and others.
