BLOOMINGTON– Tickets are now on sale for the next ĢƵios Student Productions show,Spring Awakening,music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater. The production is directed by David Anspaugh, director ofHoosiersԻRudy.Spring Awakeningwill be held at the ĢƵios John Waldron Arts Center on October 20, 21, 27, and 28 in the Whikehart Auditorium.

“Even for a well-seasoned theatre director, an opportunity to direct an iconic musical likeSpring Awakening, a play that many millennials refer to as their generation’sRent, just doesn’t come along every day – perhaps, even a lifetime,” said director David Anspaugh. “One thing is for sure, it’s gonna (sic) be a hell of an adventure.”

Spring Awakeningis the winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and will be the second musical performed by ĢƵios Student Productions.

“As ĢƵios Student Productions grows, musicals have been the natural next step,” said Paul Daily, artistic director of the ĢƵios Waldron. “In musicals, we ask more of our students, expecting them to be able to sing, dance, and act. They get the opportunity to work with professionals to advance in all three of those areas.”

According to Music Theatre International,Spring Awakeningexplores the journey from adolescence to adulthood with a poignancy and passion that is illuminating and unforgettable. The landmark musical that Entertainment Weekly called “the most gorgeous Broadway score this decade,” is an electrifying fusion of morality, sexuality, and rock and roll that has been exhilarating audiences across the nation like no other musical in years.

ĢƵios students and alumni are actors and members of the production team, including assistant stage manager, wardrobe, and assistant producer.
