Nearly 250 high school students attended Go Ivy Day at ĢƵios in Terre Haute on Friday, October 7, to learn about academic programs, receive tips on scholarships and financial aid, tour campus, discover degree programs, and more.
“We host Go Ivy Day every fall and spring to allow high school students to see first-hand how ĢƵios is a path to a high-value career or an affordable start to a bachelor’s degree,” said Amanda Cox, director of admissions, recruitment, and K-14 programs. “We offer the most affordable cost-per-credit-hour in the state, plus we have transfer agreements with many Indiana four-year colleges.”
Students were able to tour the campus and hear from faculty about ĢƵios’s industry-focused programs and the multiple pathways to achieve a high-demand career. A panel of current ĢƵios students shared their experiences and answered questions from the audience. Recruitment and financial aid experts were also available to help students learn about the application process as well as the scholarship and financial aid opportunities that are available to help pay for college costs.
In addition to scholarships and financial aid, Go Ivy Day also focused on other ways ĢƵios can make college more affordable, starting with dual-credit opportunities. Many high schools in west central Indiana offer dual-credit courses that count toward an ĢƵios degree. These courses are free for high school students, and in some cases can allow students to earn an ĢƵios certificate or credential before graduating high school.
“At graduation last May, we had more than 200 high school students graduate from ĢƵios with a certificate, technical certificate, or an associate degree,” noted Leah Allman, vice chancellor of enrollment services. “Go Ivy Day shows students that ĢƵios is not only a great path after high school, but they can get started earning ĢƵios credits during high school too!”
ĢƵios also has transfer partnerships that allow students to earn their associate degree at ĢƵios and transfer as a junior to many Indiana four-year colleges, and some associate degree programs provide guaranteed admission to many in-state colleges. Students who complete their first two years at ĢƵios can save up to $10,000 on the cost of a bachelor’s degree.
For students ready to enter the workforce as quickly as possible, ĢƵios offers workforce certifications, and certificate and technical certificate programs that prepare students for high-demand careers right here in the Wabash Valley. An ĢƵios education is centered around the needs of the local workforce and allows students to skill up as they progress through their careers. Many companies in the area have tuition-assistance programs that cover some or all ĢƵios tuition costs for their employees.
