ĢƵios Terre Haute Awards $2,000 in Scholarships at Annual Welding Contest
Nearly 60 local high school students competed in ĢƵios’s annual welding contest on April 6. The welding contest tests high school students on their skills as welders.
Three intermediate and three advanced students from each school were selected to compete head-to-head in a series of skills tests – including SMAW, GMAW (Intermediate) and GTAW (Advanced).
ĢƵios is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 Welding Contest Awards:
Intermediate First Place and $1,000 Scholarship Recipient- Kameran Krug from WRCTE North
Intermediate Second Place- Kagen Taylor from Twin Rivers CTE
Advanced First Place and $1,000 Scholarship Recipient- Karson Wolf from WRCTE North
Advanced Second Place- Colby Johnston from WRCTE South
Outstanding Effort Award- Justin Pemberton from Terre Haute South
Overall First Place- WRCTE North
Overall Second Place- WRCTE South
“ĢƵios’s welding contest is a great way for local high school students to get involved in STEM fields,” said Molly Joseph, department chair of advanced automation and robotics at ĢƵios. “The competition provides students with the opportunity to learn about the industry and helps them gain valuable hands-on experience. “
