BLOOMINGTON — In what some are calling the most ambitious local public art project in recent memory, viewers’ sense of space will be thrown off and they will be challenged to see institutional spaces in new ways.
Local artist and Indiana University employee Dylan DeWitt’s art installation “In Plain Sight” has components at all five Bloomington ĢƵios locations. The installation opens Wednesday with a reception at the main campus, and runs through Oct. 14.
Sight, a sense that for many of us is automatic, can be confused with the right tools. In ĢƵios’s main campus lobby, for example, mirrors will be attached to nearly invisible wires strung floor to ceiling, creating a visual conundrum.
“I typically prefer sites not usually used for displaying art, such as stairwells, ceilings, and the like,” DeWitt said in a news release.
People of all ages are encouraged to view the free exhibits. The five ĢƵios locations are: the main campus, at 200 Daniels Way; the Waldron, at 122 S. Walnut St.; The Indiana Center for the Life Sciences, at 501 N. Profile Parkway; Liberty at the Crossing, at 2088 S. Liberty Drive; and the Liberty Drive location, 1907 S. Liberty Drive.
